Bullying
is a case that often occurs in school, actually bullying can occur in
everywhere, but it is mostly happen in school. High school is the last
opportunity for educators to teach students, meanwhile for students, this is
their last activity to change their attitude and behavior by associating
bullying or victimization before they become an adult. High school era is an
era whereby students find out their self. Everything can be happening on this
era.
Bullying
characteristic can be physical, relational or psychological. It can be direct
behaviors, such as teasing, taunting, as we can see some students naming their
friend with a nickname, such as “big bottom”, “glasses man” and moreover. Racial,
it could be happen when one student come from minority ethnic. Sexual slurs or
harassment, threatening, hitting and stealing (Harris , Petrie &
Willounghby. 2002) Also could be happening in bullying. But indirect behaviors
occasionally occurs such as spreading rumors by gossiping, socially excluding
students, and dirty looks in passing are much harder to catch and prove.
According
to the author middle school is the highest rates of bullying than any school
level. It can be directly or indirectly bullying approximately same between
male and female, however males is often being bullied than females, but it is
slightly different.
According
to Harris and Harthorn (2006), bullying is more indirect and likely to occur
with an older student bullying a younger one. These indirect behaviors could be
giving hurtful, nicknames, making humiliating remarks, mocking others feel
alone at school… it is emotional violence that inflicts others
A
combination between verbal bullying and action bullying is a majority that we
can find in secondary schools. The location that negative actions are taking
place in vary with the ages of the students as well as the type of bullying
going on. However many indirect actions of bullying takes place inside
classroom or in the hallways right in front of teachers and other students.
Why
bullying do happen in schools?. It cannot be avoided, all we have to do are
giving an information, education to the children, It could be from the school
members themselves or the family itself. Interventions within the family are
extremely important , but educators, especially by high school, do not always
have access to parents of the students in question. Schools need to have
supports for the family should choose to use them as a guider. The school acts
as a moderator of this case, providing evening workshop and presentations for
the community, connecting parents to outside supports, and providing students
with developmental and comprehensive programming that addresses the
multifaceted issues surround bullying, self development and citizenship.
For
students that are actively being bullying should be provided as an intervention
by the schools’ counselor or support from service team, before the counselor
helps creating suitable interventions, first there must be understanding of who
student is and what their experiences with bullying have been.
To
sum up, bullying does not need to be a reality that students face. If schools
work together actively and associate
with parents by adopting prevention program, the issues of bullying will not
happen in school.
From the text above, we can see about bullying prevention program is needed solution to anticipate an existence of bullying in school.
So that it can decrease bullying case, without bullying, students will feel comfortable to study. For minimizing bullying, school itself should create some activities for all students to spent students' time.
Thus there is no gap for some students to do the bullying. Make Perform self-empowerment for each student, for example improving self confidence for students, realizing themselves that every person has their own strengths and weaknesses which have to be accepted, do not need to discourage themselves, just in case others try knock themselves down, always do remember that they have their own capability, so when students face the bullying, they can overcome it by themselves, at least, the person who does the bullying will stop doing it.
Thus it can create school environment free of bullying.
